Port de Vilanova, a working harbour by the lighthouse
Vilanova i la Geltrú is a real town with a working harbour, a few stops past Sitges on the same R2 Sud train line. It's the place for a calmer day on the water: boats made for couples, families and small groups, and the whole deck to yourselves.
The harbour has a life of its own: fishing boats come and go beside the leisure basin and its 998 berths for boats of 6 to 15 metres, while Vilanova Grand Marina keeps 49 more for yachts of 25 to 100 metres. Your trip starts by the Sant Cristòfol lighthouse, watching over the harbour mouth: a proper working port, not a resort marina.
Getting there
- By train: the R2 Sud from Barcelona stops at Vilanova i la Geltrú. The harbour is about 1 km from the station in a straight line.
- By car: come off the C-32, or the C-15 from inland.
- From the airport: Barcelona airport is about 40 km away.
- Meeting point: the exact pontoon and time come with your trip confirmation.
To the east, the coast breaks into small coves between the rocks: short hops for a swim if you only have a couple of hours. To the west, it opens into long sandy beaches, perfect for an easy anchorage and a lazy swim. The skipper picks the side that suits the day's wind. Every cove is in our guide to the beaches near Sitges.

How do I get to Vilanova marina from Barcelona?
Take the R2 Sud train to Vilanova i la Geltrú: the harbour is about 1 km from the station, an easy walk. By car, come off the C-32; Barcelona airport is about 40 km away.
Can we go sailing instead of taking a motorboat?
Yes. Vilanova has half-day sailing trips with a swim in open water, and a two-hour sunset sail. Both are private and come with a skipper.
Can we go by boat from Vilanova to Sitges?
Yes. Sitges marina is about 4.3 nautical miles along the coast, so a full day gives you time for coves on the way, lunch at anchor and the town from the sea.
When does the sunset sail leave?
In the early evening, timed so you're under sail as the sun goes down: in June and July, at around 8pm. The exact time for your date comes with your confirmation.
How many people fit on the boat?
Boats here are made for couples, families and small groups. Tell us how many of you there are and we'll look for one that fits; if you're a bigger group, ask about two boats sailing together.
